Best AI customer support agents in 2026
AI support agents now answer, act and hand off across chat, email and voice. They differ most in who they're built for, how they're tested before going live, how risky actions are approved and how they charge.

How we chose
We make BeforeQuery, so it's listed first; weigh that. Every other product is described from its own public website, checked on 6 October 2026, with the pages linked at the end. We've tried to say plainly where each one is the better choice.
- Answers from your own knowledge, with a hand-off when it isn't sure.
- Can take actions (refunds, order changes) with limits and human approval.
- Can be tested on realistic conversations before customers see it.
- Works with the helpdesk and channels you already use.
- Clear pricing model.

An AI Support Agent that works inside Zendesk or Intercom, one of five AI employees (IT, Support, Marketing, Sales, Finance) on one platform.
Best for: Teams that want AI in support and in other teams, with one set of approval rules in Slack.
What stands out
- Refunds and cancellations with a per-refund limit plus caps per customer and per day; only verified customers can trigger them.
- Rehearsal on your own past tickets, with your team marking answers good or bad.
- Finds the questions it couldn't answer and drafts the missing answer.
Worth knowing
- Chat and email through your helpdesk; no voice channel.
- Newer than the specialists in this list.
Pricing: Not published; set on a short call.
2. Intercom Fin
An AI agent for customer service that answers and resolves conversations, natively in Intercom or alongside Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshdesk and HubSpot.
Best for: Teams on Intercom, or teams on another helpdesk who want published per-outcome pricing and many channels.
What stands out
- Channels include voice, email, Messenger, Slack, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
- Procedures in natural language with conditions and code; "Loop in teammate" pauses for approval.
- Simulations, regression tests and evals built from real conversations.
Worth knowing
- On helpdesks other than Intercom, approvals run through a webhook that Intercom doesn't track.
Pricing: $0.99 per outcome (minimum 50 a month on another helpdesk); on the Intercom helpdesk, plus seats from $29 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly).
3. Zendesk AI agents

Pricing: Mainly per conversation; not published.
7. Forethought (by Zendesk)
AI agents that resolve, triage and analyse support tickets on top of existing helpdesks; acquired by Zendesk in March 2026.
Best for: Teams on a non-Zendesk helpdesk who want resolution, triage and knowledge-gap finding together.
What stands out
- Triage that tags, prioritises and routes tickets, tested on up to 1,000 past tickets.
- Discover finds knowledge gaps and drafts articles.
- Works with Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, Kustomer, Gladly, HubSpot and more.
Worth knowing
- Now sold as "Forethought AI agents by Zendesk"; check how that affects your roadmap.
Pricing: Platform fee plus outcome-based cost; not published.
How to choose
- Start with your helpdesk: if you're on Intercom or Zendesk, try their built-in agents and compare.
- Ask to see answers on your own past tickets, not a demo script.
- Check how refunds and other money actions are limited and who approves them.
- Compare pricing on your real volume: per outcome, per resolution and per conversation add up differently.
- If other teams also need AI, consider one platform rather than one tool per team.

What's the difference between per-outcome and per-resolution pricing?
Per resolution usually charges only when a conversation is closed without a person. Per outcome, as Fin uses it, also counts procedure hand-offs. Per conversation charges for every conversation.
Do AI support agents replace a helpdesk?
Most work inside or alongside one. Intercom and Zendesk sell both; others like Decagon, Ada and BeforeQuery connect to the helpdesk you have.
